Over the past eight years, Sundance Institute’s New Frontier program has been building a community of brilliant creative minds from a broad range of artistic, scientific, and technology backgrounds, who are “geeked” about playing together in the story innovation sandbox.

Last month, the New Frontier Story Lab brought a fraction of that community to the ancient mountains of Utah to share what they’ve learned from their experiments and to help develop the visionary projects of our 2013 Fellows.

Coupe (Coop) Coup
1947, a spray-paint-on-canvas by Ivory. The street artist, along with Ces One and Tich, was lured inside by critic Carlo McCormick, who united their work in Luxotica, a show in the 1926 Seminole Building during Art Basel Miami Beach.
Of course, the painting is titled after the 1947 logo of the luxury brand. It’s ideal for tweeting.

We’re digging this pitch art submitted to STYLE FRAMES Gallery.

styleframesny:

Artist: Juan Behrens
Studio: Bre4k

Info from Behrens: “Boolab asked people around to make an intro for their next reel and I decided to join in, but with a tight timing to make this happen I had to be very organized so I made the style frames in 2 nights and the animation on a sketch level but using only notes. Then, the actual making of the animation took around 10hours to make due the whole planning.

“The concept of the intro was based upon an abstraction of how lenses refract light.

With Big Data we can now begin to actually look at the details of social interaction and how those play out, and are no longer limited to averages like market indices or election results. This is an astounding change. The ability to see the details of the market, of political revolutions, and to be able to predict and control them is definitely a case of Promethean fire —- it could be used for good or for ill, and so Big data brings us to interesting times. We’re going to end up reinventing what it means to have a human society.

ALEX ‘SANDY’ PENTLAND is a pioneer in big data, computational social science, mobile and health systems, and technology for developing countries. He is one of the most-cited computer scientists in the world and was named by Forbes as one of the world’s seven most powerful data scientists.

He currently directs the MIT’s Human Dynamics Laboratory and the MIT Media Lab Entrepreneurship Program, and advises the World Economic Forum, Nissan Motor Corporation, and a variety of start-up firms. He has previously helped create and direct MIT’s Media Laboratory, the Media Lab Asia laboratories at the Indian Institutes of Technology, and Strong Hospital’s Center for Future Health.

He has won numerous international awards in the Arts, Sciences and Engineering. He was chosen by Newsweek as one of the 100 Americans most likely to shape this century, and by Forbes as one of the world’s seven most powerful data scientists.
